A moody, coltish blend of heartfelt croons and cheeky winks, Slumber’s debut single ‘Julian Casablancas (I Wanna Rock A Pair Like)’ takes a peek beneath the leather jackets; unearthing a brooding vulnerability of what it’s like to fit in with the fast-paced performance of London nightlife.
A playful ode to The Strokes frontman, Slumber’s new release embraces raw lyrics mixed with upbeat guitars and intermittent “ow!”s in a frenzy of indie mania. The track encapsulates the hubbub of Converse-clad, crowded living rooms and the desire to belong, with four minutes of punchy melodies and sultry singing. On feeling inadequate in the ‘scene’, the band jokes that it’s “much too vulnerable to say directly, so instead we just offset it with a stupid joke about The Strokes and their jeans”.
Celebrated in a basement bar down a side street in Soho, the band hosted a ‘Slumber Party’ to premier the soon-to-be-iconic anthem, along with their new music video and a photography installation, forging a community of party enthusiasts amongst the sweaty dancefloors and band tees.
With their first headline show at the Sebright Arms on October 11th coming up, Slumber are proving to be the latest addition to London’s burgeoning indie revival.
