Poignant lyrics and jagged guitars, Brighton-based trio, Jopy, release EP title track ‘Planet Zombie’, a celebration of queerness and found family through the phantasmagorical and peculiar.
Haunting and punchy, the track exudes a ghoulish campness through punky guitar riffs and skittish drums. A trembling lament mingled with tender lilts, the queer-glam-punk band concoct a world of zombies, cannibals and vampires on a journey to find acceptance. Written by Jo Parnell on her experiences as a trans woman, the lead singer and guitarist offers her music as a “light-hearted sense of escape” from the growing pains of finding your place in the world.
Released alongside a new music video that pulls the listener further down the rabbit hole of Jopy’s world, the three-minute track comes from their EP of the same title as the band continue their biggest-to-date tour with indie label Goo Records- darkening the doorways of multiple venues across the UK.
