Sometimes it’s simpler if things are just spelled out for us, to avoid confusion and dispel any doubt. And that’s exactly what Kassie Krut do for us on new single ‘Reckless’, out now via Fire Talk.
Joining a long and illustrious tradition of word-for-word spelled out choruses – I can only think of basically every Fergie hit, but I’m sure there are others – ‘Reckless’ adopts the nostalgic club pop vibe treasured by recent New York breakouts Fcukers, wraps it in abrasive chicken wire, , drenches it in some industrial-strength acid formula and watches it seethe and bubble.
A deft mixture of Mandy, Indiana-esque harsh noise, psychedelically loose structures and charmingly sweet pop melody, the band offer an intoxicating blend of the Frivolously Light (“K-I-S-S-I-N-G / Hold me in your arms if you wanna feel free”) with the Downright Cosmically Heavy; each ‘fuck-you’ synth batted away by an enchanting chorus or four. In a pit of euphoric drug-fuelled oblivion, Kassie Krut are the guiding hand, dropping the right tunes and the right breakbeats to see you through to the dawn.
Starting out as the solo project for UK-born, New York based Kasra Kurt, but now morphing into a three piece featuring members of Palm, Mothers and Body Meat, Kassie Krut represent another glorious shipment from New York’s alternative haven for us to voraciously lap up.
