Listen: London’s Bishopskin Return with New Single ‘Old Sock’

London’s Bishopskin Return with New Single ‘Old Sock’.

Pairing a feet-up-by-the-fire conviviality with a genuine Christian soulfulness, Bishopskin’s artistic vision is so committed to its own singular, devout sense of purpose that at a first impression it seems almost outlandish. But yes, here, on new single ‘Old Sock’ are wicker-woven tales of frontman Tiger Nicholson recalling the images of Christ from the “leather-bound bible” he had as a child, in the sultry voice of god-fearing blues-tinted folk that’s part Brixton-Windmill and part lofty Cathedral Vault.

With such nostalgic, Blakean testimonies continuing the themes explored on the band’s debut album ‘Babble’, ‘Old Sock’ is as succinct and punchy a welcome to the church of Bishopskin as anything the band have hitherto produced.  Even within the context of an alternative music community that in recent years has embraced the anti-modern sensibilities of folk culture, Bishopskin remain resolute outliers, going deeper, and with greater eccentricity, into their subject matter more than most, blazing their own path for any self-ordained to follow.
