Listen: London’s Memory of Speke Return with New Single ‘Freedom’

London’s Memory of Speke return with new single ‘Freedom’.

Belted with all the full-burning passion of an early Dexys Midnight Runners ballad, yet stylised with the kind of toytown rock anthemia that would make the tiny stadium crowds at Minatur Wunderland inflate as tall as giants, ‘Freedom’ sounds like it was lovingly put together with the same cardboard, pritt sticks, stitches and paints that compose Memory of Speke’s variously decorative performance attires, be they Roman centurions, Edwardian royalty or Fisherman.

Playfulness incarnate, but daubed with the twist of melancholy that adds a touch of double-edged darkness to their vibrant colouring, London’s Memory of Speke are not only building themselves up for the life of lavish entertainers, but doing so on the basis of a kind of captivating, ‘fuck-yeah’ songwriting that sends spirits into stirs. Fuck yeah.
