Listen: Cardiff’s Half Happy Share New Single ‘Well Done Honey’ and Announce Debut EP

Dream Pop quartet, Half Happy pair ambition with comfort on their latest single ‘Well Done Honey’.

It’s fair to say Half Happy have become something of a local legend in the Welsh Capital; performing at Sŵn and Green Man Festival, making an appearance at the Welsh Music Prize last October and playing an array of show’s across the city. The band have now announced their long awaited debut EP “Conversation Killer” to accompany a UK Tour in December.

The new track explores a tough drive home from a 9 to 5, with lead singer Rosalie Miller talking us through her post work emotions, a Humanist approach to an Anti-Capitalist anthem. Instrumentally, the band are on top form with a break in the middle of the song leaving space for an English Teacher-esque spoken verse.

On the track, Rosalie says “‘Well Done Honey’ was written in one sitting after an extremely bad day at work. It’s quite a literal song about working under a strict boss who always makes you feel inadequate at your job, and being the sucker in the system because you still want to succeed and not show weakness. All that daily emotion came out on a drive home and I ended up having the most panicked cry in the car. Every traffic light you dare look around because what if the person in the car next to me looks over, would they wonder what is wrong? Or are they doing/feeling the exact same thing as me?”. It would be sad if everyone else was crying in their cars too after a big day working for the man, but it made me laugh like I was in 1984 or something. The end of the song is me shaking myself that I made it home, I didn’t die and work isn’t the end of the world.”
