Listen: Fontaines D.C. Share Single ‘Here’s The Thing’

Fontaines D.C.’s third single off upcoming fourth album, ‘Romance’ arrives with an “out there” music video and follows the announcement of their biggest headline to date at Finsbury Park, London.

It’s been quite the summer already for Fontaines D.C; a headline slot at Glastonbury’s Park Stage, two massive releases in ‘Starburster’ and ‘Favourite’ and of course, their place on our cover for Issue Fifty. As they enter their album release month, the band share their latest single ‘Here’s The Thing’.

The first thing that springs to mind when listening to ‘Here’s The Thing’ is the immediate contrast between the first two tastes of the record as we’re immediately hit with industrial sounding guitars and Grian Chatten immediately jumps into the chorus with a test of his upper vocal range. The band carry over the grungier instrumentation of ‘Starburster’ and mix it with their roots – delivering a  chorus that’s destined to become their next anthem. Chatten says on the track  “It’s an anxious tune that twists and turns in what it wants, back and forth between pain and numbness”

Accompanying ‘Here’s The Thing’ is a mighty 7 minute music video directed by Luna Carmoon (Hoard). The video takes influence from Teen-Horror films (Phenomena comes to mind) as we follow a band of girls as they revolt at an Irish dancing competition ending in mass chaos. It’s absolutely bonkers, in the best possible way, as the absurdness in the video perfectly illustrates the track.
