Listen: Cork Six-Piece Pebbledash Share Double Single ‘Killer Lover / Carraig Aonair’

With their first release of 2024, Cork’s Pebbledash share two unique tracks filled with rawness, heart and effects pedals.

With shows supporting bar italia and Junior Brother under their belt, along with their own headlines in some of Ireland’s most iconic venues, Pebbledash have cemented excitement in their own scene, and they’ve built upon that with their best work yet, a double single spanning genre, themes and emotions. The first track ‘Killer Lover’ depicts lead singer Fionnbharr Hickey’s relationship with Cork City and the love/hate dynamic built with the place you come from. The vocal melody echoes that of traditional Irish songs with the shoegaze-esque instrumental beneath, creating an epic hybrid of genres. Hickey himself says the main theme is “from conflicted notions of loving and hating a place and time simultaneously”

The second half of the release, ‘Carraig Aonair’ is the bands take on traditional séan nós music, again creating a hybrid as synth player Cormac Donovan O’Neill layers the piece together with a raw touch to ambience. The track is sung by Asha Egan McCutchron and she delivers a soft but sorrowful performance, detailing lyrics of grief with nature. The two tracks were recorded back to back with Andy Killian, the drummer of Cork Art Punk band Pretty Happy.
